5 Little Things That Made My Day Easier as a New Mum (That No One Told Me About)

When you become a mum, people love to give advice — the well-meaning kind, the unsolicited kind, and everything in between. But it’s often the small things, the quiet discoveries, that make the biggest difference in the blur of early days with a baby.

Here are a few little gems that saved my sanity (or at least a few hours of sleep):

1. Get outside every day
Honestly, so basic but a must for me! Fresh air, gentle movement and sometimes even some sunshine if I was lucky! Usually I try to get outside in the mornings so it gives me a good start on the day, I feel like we've achieved something early on and it sets me up for a positive and happier day.

2. Changing Nappies on the Floor
Another basic, but easy win. After one too many accidents that ended with a soaked changing table, I ditched it completely and just used a waterproof mat on the floor. Zero stress about falls, and bonus: it doubled as tummy time space later.

3. A Group Chat with Other Mums (or Just One Good One)
Whether it’s midnight feeding questions or “is this rash normal?” panic, having another mum on the other end of a message makes such a difference. It doesn’t have to be a big WhatsApp group — even just one other mum friend can be a lifeline.

4. The “Don’t Do It All” Rule
One task a day. That was my rule. Some days it was “keep the baby alive.” Other days it was “empty the dishwasher.” Anything else was a bonus. Life gets easier when you give yourself permission to do less.

5. Soft Clothes That Don’t Fight Back
Okay — I promised this wouldn’t be about clothes, but let me just say: wrestling a tiny, squirmy baby into stiff outfits is its own level of parenting frustration. Soft, stretchy, no-fuss pieces became my love language.

What little discoveries helped you in those early days? Share them in the comments — your tip might just save another mum’s day. 💛
